Frequently asked

How much does document shredding cost?

$1 per pound. We weigh your documents at the counter when you drop off, so you only pay for exactly what you bring. There's no minimum and no setup fee — drop off one folder or fifty pounds, the price per pound is the same.

Who actually shreds the documents?

Shred-it, an NAID AAA Certified shredding service. NAID (the National Association of Information Destruction) AAA Certification is the highest industry standard for secure document destruction — auditors verify that Shred-it follows strict chain-of-custody, employee background checks, secure transportation, and verified destruction protocols. We store your documents in a secure on-site container until Shred-it collects them.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk in any time during store hours (Mon–Sat, 10am–6pm). If you're bringing more than 50 lbs or boxes of records, a quick heads-up call is appreciated so we can make space.

Do I have to remove staples, paper clips, or binder clips?

No — staples, paper clips, and binder clips are fine and don't need to be removed. Industrial shredders handle them. Please do remove hardcover books, 3-ring binders with metal rings, and anything larger than a small metal clip.

Can I watch my documents get shredded?

Not on-site — Shred-it collects from us and shreds at their secure facility. They provide a Certificate of Destruction on request for each pickup, which you can request from us if you need proof for HIPAA, tax, or legal compliance purposes.

Is this secure enough for HIPAA, tax records, or business data?

Yes. Shred-it's NAID AAA Certification meets or exceeds HIPAA, HITECH, FACTA, GLBA, and other US privacy regulations. We're a drop-off point for their service, and we keep your documents in a secured container between drop-off and pickup.

How often does Shred-it pick up?

On a regular schedule, so your documents typically sit in our secure container for a few days to a couple weeks at most before being shredded. If you need expedited pickup for a large volume or time-sensitive compliance reason, call us and we can coordinate with Shred-it.

Do you shred hard drives, phones, or other electronics?

No — we only shred paper. For secure electronics destruction, we can refer you to a certified e-waste partner. Do not drop off electronics with your paper — they will not be processed and may damage Shred-it's equipment.

Do you handle bulk shredding for small businesses?

Yes. Small businesses, tax preparers, medical offices, and law firms drop off banker's boxes and file-cabinet purges regularly. We charge the same $1 per pound — no bulk minimum, no bulk surcharge. For recurring shredding (monthly/quarterly), just let us know and we'll make sure we always have capacity.

Is this on-site or off-site shredding?

Off-site. We're a secure drop-off location: your documents are locked in our on-site bin between drop-off and Shred-it's regular pickup. They're then shredded at Shred-it's secure facility and recycled. For tax, HIPAA, or legal compliance, Shred-it provides a Certificate of Destruction on request. If you need witnessed on-site shredding for a large volume, we can refer you directly to Shred-it's mobile truck service.

Can I shred tax returns safely here?

Yes — old tax returns, W-2s, 1099s, and receipts are exactly what this service is for. The IRS recommends keeping tax records for 3–7 years depending on the situation (7 years covers most); anything older is safe to shred unless you're in an open audit or carry-forward situation. Our shredding process meets or exceeds IRS Publication 583 recommendations for business record destruction.
