Who it's for
Find yourself here?
These are the people who rent from us most often. If any of this sounds like you, a physical mailbox is almost certainly the right fit.
Home-based business owners
Keep your home address off LLC filings, business cards, Google Business Profile, and the public record. Get a professional San Jose street address without renting an office.
Common examples: LLCs, side hustles, consultants, online sellers, real estate agents
Neighbors tired of porch piracy
Every delivery sits safely inside a staffed storefront instead of on your porch. Receive from USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL, and Amazon — unlimited, no per-package fees.
Common examples: Frequent online shoppers, apartment dwellers, anyone who travels for work
People in-between homes
One stable mailing address while your housing sorts itself out — no service interruption when leases end, sales close, or moves get delayed.
Common examples: Relocating, selling, renovating, waiting on a close, temporary housing
Travelers, expats & digital nomads
A real US street address that stays yours while you're abroad. We hold mail safely, email you photos as it arrives, and it's waiting when you come back.
Common examples: Expats, snowbirds, long-term travelers, remote workers overseas
E-commerce sellers & online resellers
A dedicated address for seller verification, returns, warranty claims, and supplier samples. Unlimited package receiving from every carrier — your plan doesn't get more expensive as volume grows.
Keep your rental property LLC mail separate from personal life. Don't put your home address on tenant leases, rental listings, county records, or public investor filings.
Every physical mailbox plan includes the things you'd pay extra for elsewhere.
Mail photo notifications
We email you a photo of your mail as it arrives — so you know exactly when something's worth a trip.
A real street address
Use it on your LLC filings, business license, Google Business Profile, and website — not a P.O. Box.
Every carrier, no fees
USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL, Amazon — all accepted, all included. No per-package or storage charges, ever.
Package-theft proof
Your deliveries sit safely inside a staffed storefront. Porch pirates can't touch them.
Receive while you travel
Your mail waits for you. Pick up a month of mail in one visit when you get back into town.
Month-to-month, no contract
Cancel, upgrade, or downgrade whenever. Prepay bonuses if you want to save.
Private mailbox vs. P.O. Box
Why not just get a P.O. Box?
Good question. P.O. Boxes are a bit cheaper, but the tradeoffs surprise people. Here's the head-to-head.

Virtual alternative
Prefer to manage mail fully online?
If you need page-by-page content scans, are out of state, or rarely get mail — a virtual mailbox is the better fit. Same real San Jose address, operated by our partners.

Your mail-receiving address
[Your name]
3477 McKee Rd #[BoxNumber]
San Jose, CA 95127
A real US street address, accepted by banks, the IRS, DMV, LLC filings, Google Business Profile, and any carrier.
Can't make it in person to sign Form 1583? Anytime Mailbox handles remote online notarization (RON) during signup for out-of-town customers — no in-store visit needed.
Prefer a different provider? We also partner with iPostal1 and PostScan Mail — same San Jose address, different operators.
Virtual plan pricing and features are set by each partner. Typical fees include per-scan charges, package storage past 30 days, mail forwarding, and extra recipients. Heavy mail users usually pay less on our flat-rate physical plans.
The pricing math
"But virtual looks cheaper…"
It can be — if you barely use it. Physical mailboxes are a buffet: one flat price, unlimited everything. Virtual is à la carte: low sticker price, charges per scan, per package storage, per forward.
Here's what real monthly totals look like.
Light user
5 items · 0 scans · 0 packages · 0 forwards
Virtual (base plan)
~$10
Physical (Small)
$25
Virtual wins. If you rarely get mail, save the difference.
Typical user
Most common
20 items · 10 scans · 2 packages · 1 forward
Virtual (mid-tier + fees)
$35–$45
Physical (Small)
$25 flat
Physical wins — and no surprise charges at month-end.
Heavy user / small business
50 items · 20 scans · 8 packages · 2 forwards
Virtual (top-tier + fees)
$60–$80+
Physical (Medium)
$35 flat
Physical wins decisively. Package receiving is free on our plans.
Virtual partner ranges reflect Anytime Mailbox, iPostal1, and PostScan Mail pricing as of 2026.

★★★★★5 out of 5 stars
“Friendly staff here. They helped me get a private mailbox. I use it mostly for package delivery because packages get stolen where I live. I'm also planning to use it for a professional business address for my side hustle.”

Questions we get all the time
Straight answers — no fine print.
Can home-based businesses use this address for their LLC or DBA?
Yes — this is one of the most common reasons people rent a mailbox with us. Our physical mailboxes give you a real San Jose street address (3477 McKee Rd) that's recognized by the California Secretary of State, the IRS, banks, and the county clerk. You can use it for your LLC filing, DBA (fictitious business name), business license, Google Business Profile, website footer, invoices, and business cards. Unlike a P.O. Box, it accepts packages from every carrier.
Will a private mailbox keep my home address off the public record?
Largely, yes. In California, LLC filings, DBAs, and many county records are public. Using a private mailbox as your business address keeps your home address out of those searchable databases. Some limited exceptions exist (for example, the California Franchise Tax Board requires a separate residential address on certain filings), but for most public-facing contexts — business registration, websites, marketing, Google Business Profile — your home address stays private.
I'm relocating to or from San Jose — can I use this for temporary mail?
Absolutely. Our plans are month-to-month with no long-term contract. People use us during home sales, rental gaps, renovations, or the couple months it takes a move to fully settle. Your mail stays at one stable address the whole time, and you cancel when you're done. Many in-between-homes customers stay with us longer than they planned because they like how it works.
I live abroad — can Americans overseas use a Mailbox Plus address as their US mailing address?
Yes. Expats, long-term travelers, and digital nomads use us as their stable US address for banks, the IRS, DMV, passport renewal, Social Security, brokerage accounts, and anything else that requires a US street address. We'll email you a photo of each piece as it arrives. For content scans or forwarding abroad, a virtual mailbox (Anytime Mailbox) is usually the better fit — but physical plus forwarding-on-request works well if you travel back periodically.
How is a private mailbox at Mailbox Plus different from a USPS P.O. Box?
The biggest difference is carriers and address format. A P.O. Box is USPS-only — it cannot receive packages from FedEx, UPS, DHL, Amazon, or most delivery services, and it forces you to use a 'P.O. Box 123' address that many banks, LLC registrations, and platforms reject. Our private mailboxes give you a real San Jose street address with a suite number, accept deliveries from every carrier, hold signed-for packages safely inside the store, email you a photo when mail arrives, and are accepted for LLC filings, DBAs, and business banking. The monthly cost is a bit higher than a P.O. Box, but most customers find it's not comparable once they factor in package delivery and business use.
What's the difference between a physical and a virtual mailbox?
A physical mailbox is a locked box at our San Jose store that you pick up from. We also email you a photo of your mail as it arrives, so you know when to drop by. A virtual mailbox is a fully digital inbox — we receive your mail, photograph the envelope, and you decide online whether to scan the contents, forward, shred, or hold for pickup. Same real San Jose street address either way.
Can I use my mailbox as a business address for my LLC or corporation?
Yes. Our physical mailboxes come with a real street address you can use on your LLC filings, business licenses, and websites — unlike a P.O. Box. You can register with the California Secretary of State, list the address on Google Business Profile, and receive mail from any carrier (USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL, Amazon).
What ID do I need to sign up?
USPS Form 1583 requires two forms of ID: one primary photo ID (driver's license, passport, state ID, or military ID) and one secondary ID that verifies your home address (utility bill, lease, vehicle registration, voter card, or home insurance policy). Both must be current and unexpired. We verify ID in person at the store.
Do you charge extra for receiving packages?
No. Our physical mailboxes are flat-rate — $25, $35, or $45 per month depending on tier. You can receive packages from any carrier with no per-package fees, storage fees, or surprise charges. Virtual mailbox pricing is set by our partners and typically includes per-item fees.
How long does setup take?
About 15–20 minutes in person, once you bring your two IDs. We fill out Form 1583 together, verify your identity, and assign your box number the same day. You can start receiving mail immediately.
Can I get my mail scanned without coming in?
Yes — if that's your main use case, a virtual mailbox is the right fit because page-by-page content scans are part of the service. With a physical mailbox, you get a photo of the envelope emailed when new mail arrives, and you come in to pick up contents. We can occasionally forward urgent items at carrier cost.
Are there size or weight limits on packages you'll accept?
Yes — but they're generous. We accept any package that fits through a standard doorway and weighs under 100 lbs. That easily covers Amazon boxes, FedEx/UPS boxes, oversized sports gear, computer towers, small furniture, and most consumer shipments. For very large freight shipments (pallets, appliances, or items that need a dock), we're not the right fit — those should be delivered directly to a commercial address.
What happens if I need more than 25 packages per month?
Upgrade to our Large tier ($45/month), which includes 25+ packages and 4+ recipient names. No package is ever turned away — if you're consistently hitting limits on a smaller tier, we'll talk about the best fit.
Can I cancel or switch tiers?
Yes. All plans are month-to-month with no long-term contract. Prepay 6 months to get 1 month free, or prepay 12 months to get 2 months free. Upgrade or downgrade anytime based on your usage.
Do you offer mail forwarding to another address?
Yes. Customers traveling or temporarily away can have mail held, consolidated, and forwarded to another address on request. Pricing is carrier cost plus a small handling fee per forward (typically $3–$5). For frequent forwarding, a virtual mailbox (Anytime Mailbox) is usually more cost-effective since forwarding is built into the service.
Is Mailbox Plus a CMRA (Commercial Mail Receiving Agency)?
Yes. We're an authorized USPS Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA) — a designation that allows us to legally receive mail and packages on behalf of customers. CMRA status is what makes our street address usable as a real mailing address instead of just a P.O. Box. All CMRA operators must follow USPS DMM 508.1.8 rules, including Form 1583 registration and retention requirements.
What exactly is USPS Form 1583 and why do I need to fill it out?
Form 1583 ("Application for Delivery of Mail Through Agent") is a federal USPS form that authorizes a CMRA to receive mail on your behalf. It's required by law for every private mailbox customer in the United States — there is no workaround. The form captures your real name, home address, two forms of ID, and a signature. We complete it together at the store, I verify your ID, and we both sign. USPS requires CMRAs to keep the form and ID copies on file for the duration of your mailbox service plus 2 years after you close the box. If you're curious, the official source is USPS DMM 508.1.8.
